David calls himself a “sojourner” because he recognizes that he is radically distinct from the many who surround him. There are many distinctions between the people of God and the people of this world, but here David chooses to name only one: Sight (or understanding). David refers to himself as a stranger because he possesses the gift of sight in a world where everyone else has been born blind.
