Idolatry is not merely immoral, it is foolish. When the Bible speaks of those who worship idols it not only describes them as morally wicked, but also stupid. This is because idols are stupid (dumb, blind, deaf, lifeless). And those who worship them will become like them.
King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and murdered Uriah, her husband. Even as the king in Israel, David was still subject to the Law of God. Therefore, David deserved to die for his sins. And yet the Prophet Nathan said that David “shall not die” because another king was destined to one day die in his place.
